If the Moon Knew Me
I am my mother's one and only son and if my sister is ying I am
the yang that contributes the last piece of balance to this puzzle called
family. I was born in Belize City, Belize and immigrated to America
at the age of 4 and since then I have called South Central Los Angeles my home
for the past 18 years. I attended the fabulous Foshay Learning Center
which is a K-12 school located on Exposition and Western and in the Fall of
2013 I was blessed with a four and one-half year full-ride academic scholarship
opportunity to attend my neighborhood college the University of Southern California.
Since then four years have passed and I am currently completing my degree in accounting
and will be an alumnus this coming December. In the future, I am going to have
a career in public accounting and be a licensed CPA. I am
currently recruiting for firms and prepping for CPA testing in order
to achieve my future plans.
My mom is one of my biggest role models and as such we share qualities such as trustworthiness, loyalty, and love. Similarly, we love sneak dissing others and learning fun facts on random topics when we are together. However, unlike my mom I am not so cautious of things and we defiantly differ when it comes to generational outlook on things like technology or politics. Through my mom’s guidance and dreams for me I have developed my own personal expectations of myself and strive to achieve that bar. However, when my motivation is low and I do not know which way to turn, my mom’s expectations for me help me to recharge my focus and find a new way to achieve my expectations.
In my life so far think the one person that comes to mind when I think of a role model who exudes passion and a sense of personal responsibility is past President Barack Obama. Is it cliché? I do not care Obama is a Black man as I am who took on the job as the most powerful man in the world and held that office with poise and grace. Every decision he made or action he did weather in public opinion good or bad he did so with tact and he placed his best foot forward knowing that a nation and the world depended on his ability to do the job.
Strength and Courage are the characteristics that come to mind when I see the Lion. Due to my fascination with the Disney movie The Lion King the Lion has always been my favorite wild animal because it stood as a symbol for growth to me, this idea that I will go from cub to lion to king and then become a king of the past. Additionally, Lions also represent the idea of power in numbers due to their use of group hunting to secure kills and monitor danger. Similarly, on the topic of growth when I was younger in Belize my uncle planted me a tree and nailed a basketball hoop to it so I could play. When I went back to visit when I was 13 the nail that my uncle put in the tree was now way out of reach because in time both me and the tree grew bigger, stronger, and more beautiful.

ReplyDeleteI like how Obama is your role model for life. I personally like how he pays respect to people in the proper situations, even if those people have opinions that conflict with his own.

I can really relate your feelings to your mother to mine. My mother and I has so much interests shared together, and she is my best friend who I always count on when I'm less motivated or lost. I also love Lion King and watched it a thousand times when I was young .
ReplyDeleteI liked how you brought up the Lion King because that was my favorite movie when I was a child.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very inspiring story. You made one heck of a journey and did exceptional, congratulations. I think those are great reasons why you picked Obama as your role model and I agree 100%. Obama did hold office with grace and brought a whole new meaning to leading with grace. Very great choice!
